Scripture & Prayer
Blessings
Holy Father, keep us in your truth;
Holy Son, protect us under the wings of your cross;
Holy Spirit, make us temples and dwelling places for your glory;
grant us peace all the days of our lives, O Lord.
Maronite Church (Office of Compline)
God be in my head,
And in my understanding;
God be in my eyes,
And in my looking;
God be in my mouth,
And in my speaking;
God be in my heart,
And in my thinking;
God be in my end,
And at my departing.
Old Scottish Prayer
Comfort
Comfort, we ask you, most gracious God,
all who are cast down and faint of heart
amidst the sorrows and difficulties of the world:
and grant that, by the quickening power of the Holy Spirit,
they may be lifted up to you with hope and courage,
and enabled to go upon their way
rejoicing in your love;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

National Well-Being
O God our Father, make us worthy of your trust which you have placed in us.
May we have bravery and devotion which befit these times. As a nation may
we have the warm courage of unity and the clear consciousness of seeking
tried and precious moral values. As citizens may we have the clean satisfaction
that comes from the stern performance of our duty. May we have faith in the
future of democracy and may we build for a world of lasting brotherhood and
peace. Amen.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Guidance
Grant to me, O Lord, to know what I ought to know, to love what I ought
to love, to praise what delights Thee most, to value what is precious in
thy sight, to hate what is offensive to Thee. Do not suffer me to judge
according to the sight of my eyes, not to pass sentence according to the
hearing of the ears of ignorant men; but to discern with true judgement
between things visible and spiritual, and above all things to enquire what
is the good pleasure of thy will.
Thomas a Kempis, 1380-1471
Gifts of the Spirit
Spirit of promise, Spirit of unity, we thank thee that thou art also the
Spirit of renewal. Renew in the whole Church, we pray thee, that
passionate desire for the coming of thy kingdom which will unite all
Christians in one mission to the world. May we grow up together into
him, who is our head, the Saviour of the world, and our only Lord and
master.
Olive Wyon, 1881-1966
Prayer of Thankfulness
Lord God, thank you for loving us
even when we turn away from you.
We are grateful for your constant care and concern.
Though we feel unworthy of your great love,
we thank you that through our weaknesses
You give us strength;
And in our wanderings you show us the way.

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord, Amen.
Eternal God, You call us to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us, and your love supporting us; Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Wesleyan Covenant Prayer
I am no longer my own, but thine.
Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt.
Put me to doing, put me to suffering.
Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee,
exalted for thee or brought low for thee.
Let me be full, let me be empty.
Let me have all things, let me have nothing.
I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
thou art mine, and I am thine.
So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth,
let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
Lord, I pray that you put people in my life who have wisdom from you
and I allow them to speak in my life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
I asked for strength that I might achieve;
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that I might do greater things;
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy;
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I had asked for,
but everything that I had hoped for.
Almost despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered;
I am, among all men, most richly blessed.
