Duck United Methodist Church:
Dear United Methodist Friends,
United Methodist Communications is working to provide timely and relevant information about how The United Methodist Church is responding to the tragic earthquake in Haiti and how United Methodists can support these efforts. United Methodists have had a long-standing relationship with Haiti through the Methodist Church of Haiti. The United Methodist News Service has already posted stories on the tragedy and will have ongoing coverage about United Methodist mission teams that are in Haiti, response efforts by the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and what local churches are doing to provide aid. Stay tuned to http://www.umc.org/haiti for more information. Support for relief efforts can be made to Haiti Emergency, UMCOR Advance # 418325. 100% of gifts to UMCOR through the Advance support the designated project. Room in the Inn is a mission project that DUMC first participated in last year. It is a County wide project supported by individual churches on a weekly basis during the coldest months of the year. The project is to take homeless people off the street and bed them down in church for one week. They are brought to the church by van at 6:15 PM and fed dinner at 6:30. they normally retire at 8:00 PM. They have bag lunches prepared after dinner and rise for breakfast at 6:30 AM. The van takes them at 7 AM back to the daily pickup spot.
DUMC is scheduled to be involved from Sunday evening 24 January until breakfast on 31 January. Our requirements are listed as follows:
Provide breakfast for seven days. DUMC provides the food for breakfast preparation. Requires folks (1-4) to arrive at the church in time to serve breakfast at 6:30 AM sharp.
Provide dinner for seven days. Requires a family/small group to prepare and serve dinner at 6:30PM. The cooks will provide the food for dinner and will eat with the guests. Bag lunches will be prepared following dinner. The dinner cooks will put out the food and help with preparing the lunches if necessary. Lunch food will be provided by DUMC.
Evening hosts. A family/friends will be at the church around 5 PM to greet the guests and have dinner and socialize until 8 PM. Detailed responsibilities will be provided.
Overnight hosts. One person from 8PM-1AM and another from 1AM-6AM. A couple may take the entire night. There will be a roll away bed in the choir office. Detailed responsibilities will be provided.
It took about 74 DUMC members to pull this off last year. It is a very rewarding experience and we will need your help. Signup clipboards will be passed next Sunday. You may call Mac McDanel 261-3832. to volunteer. There will be additional points of contact for UMW, UMM and circil of friends following a meeting Wednesday evening.

The Care Ministry provides assistance to our Duck Church families at times of illness or hospitalization, birth of a baby, or death in the family. The Care Ministry Caller serves for one month and contacts volunteers (Servants) to help meet the needs within the church family. Please consider serving God through this Ministry. We know you will be blessed by your service. Please contact Sharon Little, Care Ministry Leader e-mail: slittleobx@gmail.com; phone 255-0011 for additional information and let her know if you would like to be a Caller or Servant or both.
Duck United Methodist Church is currently seeking individuals to help with the recording, switching of cameras and monitoring of the AV equipment during the 8 & 10 AM services. It is very
simple to operate, requires no previous
experience, and is a vital part of our
community outreach. By the way,
neither Bob Furr or Ned Keim are
leaving... they are just sometimes out
of town on Sunday.
Contact the church office at 261-1525 if
you would like to help your church
reach out to our communities.
