The Beach Food Pantry provides emergency food services to residents of Dare County. Seasonal employment leaves many on the Outer Banks without jobs in the winter, and many families struggle to make ends meet. The Beach Food Pantry allows residents to receive two weeks worth of food items up to 4 times per year.
Every Communion Sunday, members and visitors of Duck UMC bring in non-perishable food items to benefit the Beach Food Pantry. Others provide monetary support for the Food Pantry. Also, six times a year, Duck Church volunteers serve for a week at a time at the distribution center in Kitty Hawk. About 30 church members help with this ministry. If you would like to help make a donation or serve at the Beach Food Pantry through Duck UMC, contact the church office.
Beach Food Pantry--Thanksgiving Bags - Again this year the pantry is asking people to donate one bag of food. The items needed are listed below. I priced these items at Food Lion; the cost should be approximately $20-25.00. An optional gift for the bag is a $10.00 gift card for the client to purchase a turkey. Please bring your bag to church Sunday, November 12th. Items for the bag include 1 can each of corn, green beans and peas, 1 can of sweet potatoes, 1 bag mini marshmallows, 1 can cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, 1 jar gravy, instant mashed potatoes, 1 pie filling and a boxed crust, 1 can of evaporated milk, 1 can cream of mushroom or chicken soup and 1 can dried onions. Optional--$10.00 gift card. Thank you in advance for helping families to have a nice Thanksgiving dinner.
