Ministry

Mission Corner

We are a Rainbow Covenant Church. I just received a copy of our Treasurer's remittance
to Conference of Rainbow Covenant giving for 2009, and we met our budget. Not that all
of it was given specifically toward our Rainbow Covenant goals; rather the Committee on
Finance andthe Administrative Council acted to meet our shortfalls in mission giving by
covering those shortages out of our total tithes and offerings. Praise God for the people of
Duck UMC for their concerns for and generosity to those less fortunate, here and around
the world.

Our Caring Hands Ministry was especially busy during December. They erected a sorely
needed new roof on a trailer home for a single mother and her three children. As our
ministers worked at the site, they became more aware of the desperate straits of the family
and the work expanded; new kitchen flooring and kitchen cabinets now grace the home and
more work throughout the home is in the offing. The Fellowship Sunday School class, by its
generous offering, made the family's Christmas a much more festive occasion.

As you read this, we are about to participate in a new program on the Outer Banks --
Ruthie's Kitchen. Each Tuesday night, OBX churches are providing a dinner meal for those
in need of nurture. The meals are served at the Dream Center, Nags Head. Duck UMC will be
doing the meal on Jan 19th. Sherman Pierce is our Coordinator…call him at 261-2034.
Again, during the week of January 24th, Duck UMC will be serving OBX homeless by
participating in Room in the Inn. This program, started last winter, brings comfort and
food to homeless persons amongst us. Duck hosted the homeless for one week last winter
"Ducksters" worked as a team to make our week as host a memorial
experience. Mac McDanel is coordinating this outreach program. Mac can be reached at
261-3832. Duck UMC is a giving church. Our generosity is held in awe by many.
Let us not relax; rather, let us continue to reach out to those less fortunate.
Even though some among us may have fallen victim to the economic fiasco that has
evolved on our great nation, we must remain mindful of our duty in mission.
