Sunday School

We have just completed a wonderful Sunday School year. Thank you very much to our faithful Sunday School teachers and assistants. Each of you is a true blessing to our church and our children. Many thanks for your dedicated service to Jesus Christ.

Children’s Church

This summer our children will be encouraged to grow closer to the Lord through our Children’s Church Ministry. We will offer a simplified worship service with all the children together followed by age appropriate smaller group activities. Children’s Church will meet each Sunday at the ten o’clock worship service for preschool through third grade children. Students will go directly back to the Children’s Sunday School hall to sign in for Children’s Church before the worship service begins. Nursery and Toddler care will continue to be provided for the little ones.

Fourth & Fifth Grade Sunday School

This summer we are trying something new in order to keep our fourth and fifth graders engaged and excited about growing with God! On the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, the fourth and fifth graders will meet for Sunday School and use a new curriculum called “Grapple”. Kids will grapple with the issues their age deals with and find answers by digging into the Bible. Grapple has a preteen edition specifically for this age group. It is tailormade for today's youth to help them understand and own their faith. Grapple helps children answer questions about faith, relationships, and choices. Grapple Sunday School curriculum delivers Biblical truth the way your preteens want to hear it. There is also a safe and secure online, interactive portion to keep the children involved as a community during the week. Students can play fun games, interact with clues for the next lesson, and keep up to date on events and announcements and more!

On the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of the month, our fourth and fifth grade class will join the congregation in worship. We will provide emails during the “worship weeks” to help them prepare for and engage more fully in the worship experience. Discipleship and worship are both areas where we would like to see our fourth and fifth graders grow. Michelle and Dana Buckhout and Greg Wills will continue to faithfully serve as our teachers

Name Tags and Our New Pastor

Thank you for wearing your blue DUMC name tag on Sunday mornings. As we prepare to welcome our new pastor and his family, please double check to be sure you have your church name tag on the magnetic white board at church so it is always here when you are. By wearing your name tag regularly, youwill give our new pastor the opportunity to identify his year -round church family.

Quiet Kits

The Hospitality Team put together “quiet kits” for visiting children to use during worship if they remain in the sanctuary with their parents. The kits are in a bright green basket in the narthex and are arranged by age level.

The Lay Leadership Team is pleased to share that the Administrative Council approved two recent nominations:

We thank several others who have agreed to serve on church committees:

Beth Moore

Living Proof Ministries presents Beth Moore live at the Richmond Coliseum on Friday, August 27 – Saturday, August 28, 2010. “Living Proof Live continues to be the perfect mix of biblically sound messages and worship from beloved teacher Beth Moore and worship leader Travis Cottrell. This fun, authentic ministry team prepares a unique message from God for each location. You’ll leave knowing that the message you heard was created just for you.”

Several ladies from our church are interested in hearing Beth Moore speak. Tickets are $60. General admission seating only. You are welcome to join us! Please contact Laura Daniels in the church office this month if you are interested in attending.

Christian Business Guide

Please take a moment to pick up our church business guide. Copies are available in the narthex and on the counter by the office. If you are a business owner and would like to be included, please place a business card in Laura Daniels’ church mailbox.

Nametags
Thank you for wearing your nametag at all church functions. We have two magnetic boards in the main hall to store your tag at church. Tags are arranged in alphabetical order with last names beginning with A-M on the first board and N-Z on the second board. If you need a nametag, please contact Laura Daniels in the church office.

Going Electronic

In an effort to conserve (paper, copying costs, production time, etc), we are planning to send electronic documents that would traditionally be included in the yearbook (goals, budget, program guide, council & committee lists, roster with contact information, etc) to the congregation. We will provide hard copies for those who do not have a computer. If you need a hard copy, please contact Gay Statler in the church office.

Contact Information

As we get ready to make updates, please review your name and all contact information in the 2009 Church Yearbook. Please contact Helen Pisek at hpisek@aol.com or 261-3917) with any additions, deletions, corrections, etc. Thank you for your help.

Annual Conference

Our United Methodist Annual Conference was held in Greenville on June 10-12, presided by Bishop Al Gwinn. The theme for the quadrennial was A Future With Hope: Living for Jesus. The conferencebegan with worship and song, and proceeded with reports, the discussion of current issues, and the presentation of resolutions.
A partial list would include the financial overview, the report of the monitoring and accountability committee and the Bishop’s State of the Church Address. A more detailed report is available in the church office.
