DUMC is proud to support a number of Missions: locally, nationally and internationally. Our local ministries include: Caring Hands, Disaster Response, Interfaith Community Outreach, Food for Thought, Pathways International, and Beach Food Pantry. Two new local ministries have been added for 2011: Room in the Inn and Ruthie's Kitchen. These ministries were started in 2008 and 2009 respectively and have now been added to the DUMC official list of local supported ministries.
Our Rainbow Covenant missions, those missions supported through “second mile giving” through our North Carolina Conference, include: Project Agape Armenia which provides relief efforts such as food, medicines, and medical supplies; Society of St. Andrews Potato Project, a program that salvages millions of pounds of unmarketable produce and distributes to the hungry; ZOE (Zimbabwe Orphans Endeavor) an African-centered ministry to orphans and vulnerable children suffering from AIDS; Heifer Project International, an interfaith project which provides farm animals and other assistance to rural families overseas (recipients agree to pass on the first-born female offspring of their animals to someone in need); M.E.R.C.I. (Marion Edwards Recovery Center Initiatives), our conference disaster response center which trains response team members and collects and distributes relief materials. We also support the United Methodist Children's Home, United Methodist Retirement Homes, and All God's Children UMC in Aulander, NC.
DUMC has been the leader in giving for several years in our district, made possible through the very generous and unselfish donations by the people of our little church by the sound! Please contact Mac McDanel (261-3832,
